This is why AI Startups are key players in the transformation of service jobs
I prepared an infographic to show you the central issue that my co-author, Aarni Tuomi, and I frame in our paper about the role of AI startups in the sustainable social development of AI for the service sector.
The emergence of intelligent automation, or artificial intelligence (AI), is leading to a job transformation within the service ecosystem, changing work practices. The challenge is that service jobs are very particular: low wages with physically and mentally demanding tasks. Then, AI might seem a lifesaver for these workers, but in fact, it might not be beneficial for them because decent work conditions and well-being might not always be secured.
So how do we make sure that the service staff's situation is improved with AI? it's not just by looking into the technology itself, but at the people and society that are part of this socio-technical system. This includes AI startups, of course. These organizations are quite relevant in the intelligent automation field, creating solutions for the service sector.
Then, the question is how can these AI startups influence the sustainable social development of the service sector? That is, how can they create AI solutions that are socially responsible and culturally sustainable? This is where the inquiry starts.
